ToggleWhat are Millets?
Millets, these tiny powerhouses of nutrition, aren’t just historical staples but resilient, quick-growing wonders. Thriving in challenging conditions where other grains falter, millets have sustained communities in Asia and Africa for millennia. Their robust nature makes them a boon for subsistence farmers.
Beyond survival, millets offer a nutritional jackpot — packed with protein, fibre, and vital minerals. Gluten-free by nature, they cater to those with dietary sensitivities. Their eco-friendly profile, demanding less water and regenerating soils, adds to their allure. In a world embracing health and sustainability, millets are emerging as savvy alternatives, marrying tradition with a forward-thinking approach.
Benefits of Millet for Babies
Millet is a highly nutritious, non-glutinous, and non-acidic food. Its soothing, non-acidic properties make it easy to digest. As well as being the least allergenic and most digestible of all grains, they are also considered the healthiest. Because millets are high in insoluble fibre, they release small amounts of glucose over a longer period, reducing the risk of diabetes.
- Easily digestible and absorbed
- Helps cure anaemia and is an excellent source of iron
- Contains a lot of calcium
- Helps to relieve constipation
In particular, millet contains minerals such as iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Moreover, it contains several B vitamins such as niacin, B6, and folic acid. Ragi’s polyphenol and dietary fibre content are responsible for some of its health benefits. Among all plant foods, it has the highest calcium content. Millet is one of the best natural sources of calcium for growing children because it contains calcium along with Vitamin D, which strengthens the bones.
You should also inspect the grains, especially if you don’t use them as often. Small amounts of millet are recommended so that it does not go rancid. You can save time and effort by buying a Millet health mix from Yummy Valley.
